June OMG : Smokey Bear Panel Quilt

Hi everyone! Well, the lap quilt went okay last time, so let's try another!

Even though I haven't quilted in FOREVER I love visiting quilt stores when I travel. After a race on the Olympic Peninsula I stopped in at a adorable shop called Sleepy Valley Quilt Company. I spent over an hour in my sweaty running clothes browsing the store, and found lots of treasures that, if I get my quilting mojo back, I'll want to work on later this year. What I found irresistible was this Smokey Bear panel, and two coordinating fabrics:

It's 36 x 43.5", and I bought two coordinating fabrics to use as a bit of a border. My plan is to stitch the borders to make the flimsy, then pin it and then... well, what?

I'm strictly a "stitch in the ditch" sort of quilter ... so the idea of figuring out what and how to quilt the big panel in the center will be a real challenge. So we'll see how that goes! Around the bears, the rocks in the fire ring, the bucket, the hat, the sign, the trees... maybe?

The One Monthly Goal link-up is organized by Elm Street Quilts with the idea that we can just focus on one task and make progress. You can see all the new June projects -- or add your own -- on the Goal Setting page. (You can also see how people did in May on the Finish Party page!)
