Swan Stitch-a-Long, part 9

Hi everyone! This three week stretch leads me to a confession -- and a realization. And a decision.

The confession? I haven't done much on my Swans piece; though I did finish the tiny last bit of dark blue background, and worked on the right-hand green border.

That's pretty much it!

And the realization?

I'm a one-project gal.

I had decided in February that I should devote some time to my temperature project piece... even though I really wanted to work on my Swans. So in the evening I would sit down to stitch, look longingly at the Swans piece, feel like I *should* work on the temperature piece, then feel overwhelmed by it. And then, because I wasn't "supposed" to work on my Swans, I would just do something else less productive... which means I did even less stitching overall.

So I have made a new decision. Until I finish the Swans piece -- including making it up into a cushion -- I'm just going to set aside the temperature project. I know it means a lot of catching up, probably in the middle of the summer. However, I think then I'll be able to get in a rhythm of filling in the blocks. For now I'm going to be swan-centric -- with occasional small side projects to work on when I'm traveling, we're camping, or I have a specific gift to finish.

My fellow stitchers have undoubtedly been busier and more productive than I have been; visit their blogs and check out all of their amazing work:

  1. That certainly resonates with me. I have multiple projects, but only one of each type, of I would be in the same boat!

  2. Every bit of progress is closer to a finish! I do love seeing your swan updates. As a former "serial starter" I realized about a year ago that having too many projects stresses me out, so I completely understand. I still have too many on the go, but am working on dwindling the number down... Best wishes with your swans this next 3 weeks!

  3. I too find that working on one project is best for me. I tend to stitch the SAL project for about a week immediately after the updates posts and then put it out of sight and work on something else, usually wool related instead of thread.

  5. Yea, to swan-centric efforts. It is a juggling act for sure and I will enjoy seeing this piece to fruition. I recently just learned to put aside a project to maybe not return to...it just wasn't enjoyable anymore and life is too short. :)

  7. Hey, learning about yourself is a valuable use of time. Now you'll be more productive! You might even have more fun with the temperature project when you return to it.

  8. That is very sensible! I have so many projects on the go, and some are welcome distractions to the bigger pieces, but it does mean that not a lot happens with them at times!
