May OMG complete : Zelda quilt

Hi everyone -- hope you and yours are safe and healthy.

I'm THRILLED to report that I completed my May OMG to make a quilt for my husband out of Zelda fabric. Here's where I was the start of the month, a sketch and some fabric:

I cut the strips and then sewed them into sets, and then made the 9-patch blocks.

And then I sewed the sashes and made the flimsy. And, well, then I pinned it and quilted it. Just "stitch in the ditch", mind you. Nothing fancy. And then I sewed on the binding and finished it by hand. And... voila!

To be honest, I think the fabric is too busy for the size of these 9-patch blocks.

I think I would have been better off using a larger square and maybe doing a checkerboard pattern, possibly without even the sashing.

But I feel pretty happy to have finished this little 40x40 lap quilt in a month, and my husband likes it (and likes looking at all the different patterns in the fabric). So I'm happy with the result.

The One Monthly Goal link-up is organized by Elm Street Quilts with the idea that we can just focus on one task and make progress. You can see how everyone did in their May projects on the Finish Party page! Or choose an OMG project of your own and join us in June. I still haven't decided what to pick up next, though it may be ANOTHER QUILT. Well, quilt related, anyway. We'll see!
